Professional Statement

Dr. Sober’s research and clinical interests focus on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias across the continuum from preclinical disease through later-stage cognitive impairment. His primary interests include the early detection and characterization of neurodegenerative processes, with an emphasis on dementia biomarkers and the relationships among biomarker profiles, cognitive functioning, and clinical outcomes. Additional areas of interest include the cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and functional effects of chronic and life-limiting medical conditions, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), as well as the investigation of modifiable risk factors (e.g., hearing loss) associated with cognitive decline and dementia. His work seeks to improve understanding of disease mechanisms, identify opportunities for early intervention, and inform strategies to promote healthy cognitive aging and improve quality of life for patients and families.
